Sidney Douglas Gilbert

Born on July 21, 1947, in Monroe, MI, Sidney was the son of Owen and Eileen (Miller) Gilbert. He graduated from Dundee High School in 1965. He began work as a machinist and then enlisted in the United States Army to serve his country in 1966. He served in the Vietnam War and was awarded numerous medals for his bravery and talents. Sidney married Mary Jo Kesler on January 19, 1968, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church (Ida, MI). They had one daughter, Marsi Jo, in 1969. Sidney enjoyed spending time with family and friends, hunting with his beloved dog, watching football and baseball with a Pepsi in hand.

Sidney was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, his daughter, and his sister Sylvia Steele, and brothers Gary, Gordon, Paul, and Robert Gilbert.  He survives numerous nieces, nephews, great nieces, and great nephews.

There will be a memorial gathering on Saturday June 6, 2026, at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, from 10AM - 11AM, with the service at 11AM. Pastor Aaron Werner from Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ida, MI, will officiate. Burial of cremains will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Dundee, MI.
