Mary Theresa (Gotha) McMullin, 63 yrs of Monroe, MI, passed away peacefully Wednesday June 25, 2025, in the IHM of Monroe, MI, under the care of Heartland Hospice. She battled many health issues for the past five years. She was diagnosed with Glioblastoma in February, which ultimately ended her life. Cremation has occurred. Due to Mary’s wishes there will be no services.
Born February 3, 1962, in Monroe, MI. Mary was the youngest of five children born to Arthur and Jacqueline (Yensch) Gotha. She was a 1980 Ida High School Graduate. She was married to Robert J. McMullin June 3, 1983. She was married to Robert McMullin from 1983 until they divorced in 2007. Mary worked with and enjoyed her interaction with the public her entire career. From her young days as a cashier and stock person at A.C.O. Hardware, to Department Manager at Elder Beerman, to teller at Monroe Bank and Trust, Mary excelled in everything she did. She worked for Monroe Community Credit Union for 13 years, retiring in 2022. She was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the SSIHM Association. She was a co-founder and active member of PS We Love You Therapy Dogs and was a member of the Raisin River Rider Member Equine Club.
Mary loved camping since her childhood and throughout her adult life. She was known for her tasty baking and cooking and wasn’t afraid to experiment with anything in the kitchen. She used her crafty talents to scrapbook, color, decorate her home, repurpose items, and groom her dogs. She took great pride and enjoyed working in her beautifully landscaped yard and with her indoor plants. She loved her fur-babies and was the “dog whisperer!” Once when her sister Debbie was having trouble training her new puppy, Mary took Zoey into her home for several weeks for the “McMullin Boot Camp.” Zoey returned home much better behaved. Debbie was very thankful!
Mary loved thrift shopping for unusual, colorful items. Her clothing flair might be considered part hippie, part Boho, part glamour queen. Her creativity really showed in the ways she’d put together an outfit complete with jewelry and shoes. Her coworkers looked forward to seeing her latest clothing finds, which she had a lot of fun with.
Mary was a wonderful daughter, sister, friend, and fur-momma. She had a most glowing personality with a great laugh attached to the biggest heart and gave without asking for anything in return. She was thoughtful, kind, generous, fun, warm and fair to everyone. She always treated people with dignity and respect. She had an infectious smile and twinkle in her eyes she could make a connection with people in just a few minutes. She really enjoyed being an active volunteer sharing her beautiful heart with the IHM Sisters and recently became an IHM Associate which meant so very much to her! She had a deep love and appreciation for “her Sisters” and other friends at the IHM. She had a deep faith in God, which gave her great comfort these past four months and that kept her very brave and courageous.
The family greatly appreciates the love and care that she received at IHM while in hospice. The Sisters, nursing staff, doctors, aides, and receptionists at the front desk were always so kind. To hospice nurse Julie, for her unwavering compassion we are eternally grateful and appreciative.
Survivors include: her siblings, Arthur (Rueben Lambert, who was like a brother) Gotha, Allen Gotha, Shirley (Albert) VanDaele, Debra Gotha and her always and forever friend of 30 plus years, Wendy Bair. And her furry MaltiPoo, Izzy.
