Duane Eugene Schmidt

Duane Eugene Schmidt, 74 yrs of Petersburg, MI, died in his home surrounded by family under the care of Heartland Hospice on Friday November 21, 2025. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Sunday November 30, 2025, from 2-7PM. He will lie-in-state on Monday December 1, 2025, from 10 AM until the services at 11AM at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg, MI.

Born August 25, 1951, in Toledo, OH. Duane was the son of Christian and Darlene(Greene) Schmidt. He was a 1969 Whiteford High School Graduate. Duane servedhonorably with the US Army from 1969- 1972. He married Diane Smith on April 23,2011, in Las Vegas. Duane was an AT&T Technician for 18 years, retiring in 2015. He previously worked for AllTel Phone Company. Duane was a charter member of the Moose Lodge Irish Hills, and Lynn C. Weeman American Legion Post 514, Ida, MI. He loved hunting, fishing, hunting for Morel Mushrooms, gardening and taking care of his lawn. Duane loved the University of Michigan sports team and the family requests for the funeral, friends wear their University of Michigan attire, Go Blue!

Survivors include: his wife Diane; children, Christian (Lisa) Schmidt, Nicholas Schmidt, Jessica (Dean) Kottke, Amanda (David) Lewis, Thomas Lehr; siblings, Darrell (Beverly) Schmidt, Christine (Brad) Cobourne, Cheryl Gigax, Cathrine Schmidt, Candace (Rick) Gensler; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, David Schmidt, stepson, Daniel Lehr, 1st wife, Trudy Hausmann Schmidt and brother-in-law, Tom Gigax.
