Barbara Fern (Steffens) Hewitt

Barbara Fern (Steffens) Hewitt, 86 yrs of Petersburg, MI, died in her home on September 25, 2025. A celebration of life will occur at a later date for Barbara.

Born September 18, 1939, Barbara was the daughter of Harold and Fern (Adams) Steffens. She was a Summerfield High School Graduate. She married William (Bill) Hewitt in February of 1959. She was a Special Education Aide for Monroe County ISD and Summerfield Public Schools. Barbara was a member of the Monroe Boat Club and the Petersburg United Methodist Church. Barbara loved snowmobiling, boating, and traveling the world in her younger years, going to Taco Tuesdays with friends, watching her cooking shows, the Detroit Lions, and the University of Michigan football. Most of all, she loved her family and visits from her grandchildren and great-grandchildren who always knew there was a fresh, “frozen” chocolate chip cookie waiting for them.

Survivors include: her husband William; children, Steve (Penny) Hewitt, Mike Hewitt, Lisa Walters; sibling Linda Diesing; grandchildren, Kristofer (Ashley Miller), Nicholas (Jessica), Jessica (Brandon), Joshua (Amber), Kayle (Drake Cortese), Michael (McKenzi), Olivia (Michael) and 15 soon-to-be 16 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, brother Johnny, daughter-in-law Terry, brother-in-law Larry, and an infant great-grandson.

Memorial contributions can be made to the City of Petersburg for park improvements or the Monroe Boat Club.
