Denise Gayle Dunn

Denise Gayle Dunn, 69, recently of Monroe, MI, but long time resident of Mt. Clemens, MI, passed away June 14, 2020, with her daughter and son by her side. She was born to the late Harold (Butch) and Elizabeth (Betty) Wolff, January 15, 1951, in Mt. Clemens, MI. Denise graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1969. She married Steven Dunn soon after on November 7, 1969, and they were together for 20 years before divorcing in 1989.

Denise is survived by her children Sheila (Andrew) Kreichbaum of Ida, MI, and Craig Dunn of Shelby Township, MI; grandchildren Amber Kreichbaum, Jade Kreichbaum, Logan Kreichbaum, and Sean (Olivia) Wieczorek; siblings Thomas (Virginia) Wolff, Sheila Robbins, and Gerald (Patricia) Wolff; cousins Barbara Kovich and Steve (Chris) Kovich; ex-husband Steven Dunn; in-laws Martin (Patricia) Dunn, Janine (Charles) Winkler, Sandra (James) Binienda; nieces and nephews Laurel (Jeff) Harris, Paula (Brent) Wilson, Brian Wolff, Natalie Fosmore, Carl (Bonnie) Fosmore, Nicholas Dunn, David Dunn, Christopher (Christie) Winkler, Bradley Winkler, Meagan (Philip) Grim, Michael Binienda, and Emily (Eric) Gill and a host of great-nieces and great-nephews.

Denise loved her children and son-in-law with all her heart. She adored all of her grandkids, including all of their friends who call her Nana. Her family always held a special place in her heart. Denise was her daughter’s anchor and her village. If she needed ANYTHING Denise was doing it before she could finish asking, no matter what Denise’s plans were. The reason Denise relocated to Monroe was to help with the grandchildren after she retired.

She was very sad not to be able to visit with her family during the pandemic but took the time to make a book of pictures with her personalized touches for many of her family. The family called it her pandemic project. They treasure these books filled with her love.

Denise fought so hard to come back from liver failure last year because she was determined to see her youngest grandson graduate and see how tall he will be. One of her medical doctors called her a miracle for coming so far from how sick she once was. For her to have a stroke so suddenly seems somehow unfair. However, in the end, she went peacefully, on her terms, with Craig and Sheila by her side.

She is going to be missed each and every day. She loved shopping trips, DQ runs, visiting with family, lunches (or dinner or breakfast) out. She loved listening to music and even had a record left on her record player. (Yes, she still had vinyl.) She had brilliant blue eyes and a quick smile that lit them up. She enjoyed being a Special Olympic Unified Bowling partner and was sad to have to give that up after her illness last summer. Denise made the family famous deviled eggs that were requested at each and every get-together. Unfortunately, she took that delicious recipe with her.
