Thomas Michael Opfermann

Thomas Michael Opfermann, 70, was born October 1, 1954, in Monroe, Michigan. He
was the son of Ray and Rita (Keefe) Opfermann. Tom attended Ida schools and graduated in 1972. It was here that he met his high school sweetheart, Jane Adler. They were married on November 2, 1973, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church. Tom was a skilled heavy equipment operator for Stoneco for over 25 yrs, retiring in 2015. Tom would do anything for his family. He enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren and taking them to Mackinac every year. He also loved doing yard work and playing cards. Tom was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ida, Michigan.
Tom, passed away in his home, on Tuesday November 12, 2024, surrounded by family
under the care of Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Tom is survived by his wife, Jane, three children, Daphne Claussen, Amber Poppenhager (Robert Clark), and Michael (Rhonda). He is also survived by 7 grandchildren: Sierra (Michael) Mosher, Diana Bee Claussen, Andrew (Lindsey) Poppenhager, Savannah Claussen, Summer (Drew) Cox, Michael Opfermann Jr., Charles Opfermann, 2 great-grandchildren, Violet Mosher and Aria Poppenhager. Tom’s surviving siblings: Virginia “Bunne” (Richard) Weeman, Vicki (Dennis) Oberski, William (Rebecca), Alan (Darla), Judy (Al) Simmons, Mary (Paul) Sopscak, James (Tammy), Susan, Annette (Greg) Opfermann-Nausbaum, John Paul, and five step siblings. He was preceded in death by his parents, stepfather Thomas Pelphrey and brother, Gary.
Visitation will be held on Monday, November 18, 2024, from 2 PM until 8 PM in the
Capaul Funeral Home, Ida. Funeral services celebrating Tom’s life will be held on Tuesday,
November 19, 2024, showing from 10 AM until the service at 11 AM at Prince of Peace
Lutheran Church by Pastor Aaron Werner. The burial will be at the Bedford Memorial Gardens, Temperance, MI.
