Born on March 25, 1947 – in Pikeville, KY – Shirley (Mimi) was the daughter of James Burke and Ophia (Johnson) Gilliam.  She graduated from Mullins High School (Pikeville, KY) in 1966.  Shirley married John Potter on May 28, 1966, in Pikeville, KY. She was an exceptional wife, mother and homemaker.  Mimi took pride in caring for her home and children.  Her husband, “Papa John”, passed away on March 24, 2011.  In her free time, Mimi enjoyed reading, cooking, puzzles, and spending quality time with her family, especially her grandchildren.  Christmas was her favorite time of the year.

Many things will be missed without Mimi.

When you brought her a Wheat penny, she would cook biscuits and gravy for you.

The way she would hug, resting her head on your shoulder.

Stopping by her house for a homemade breakfast sandwich on the way to work.

Fresh batches of strawberry preserves every spring

How quietly excited she was when all her kids and grandkids would come over on the holidays.

How much joy she derived from a simple drive down some backcountry roads, especially in the Fall.

How she spoiled her daughters-in-law every Christmas.

Survivors include her sons Terry (Denise), Todd (Holly), and Tony (Kelly) Potter, her brothers JB (Nancy) and Scotty Gilliam, and her grandchildren Bailey (Justin) Sorge, Cody, Tori, Shelby, Garrett, Evan, John, Maggie, and Allie Potter.  Shirley was preceded in death by her parents, husband, and sisters Glynith Mae Weddington and Doris Charles.

Our Thumbs are Up Mom !!!
