On August 22, 2024, the lord came for one of his best. Ronald Russell Eighmey, 76 yrs. of Ida, passed peacefully in his home under the care of his family, supported by Heartland Hospice.
Born March 6, 1948, in Toledo, OH. Ron, also known as Captain Ron and Q, was the son of Walter and Betty (Kleinknecht) Eighmey. He earned his bachelor’s and master’s degrees in mathematics and chemistry from Eastern Michigan University. He married Mary Kathryn (Kathy) Good on August 30, 1969, in Dundee Presbyterian Church. Ron was a devoted high school teacher and technology coordinator for Mason Consolidated Schools from January 1971 through June 2005. He was a member of the Michigan Education Association. Â
In his later years, Ron loved spending time with his grandkids, teaching them mostly appropriate behaviors and how to play the game of baseball. He enjoyed watching Detroit Tigers baseball and University of Michigan football games on TV. He also enjoyed boating, fishing, golfing, and driving his Corvette. His fondest memories came from playing across two generations of family softball teams and from spending time at his parent’s cottage on Big Lake in Manitoulin Island, ON, Canada. He was a selfless man with a passion for life and was always the first to offer his help and support to anyone in need.
Ron is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 55 yrs, Kathy; his children, Jason (Kelly) Eighmey, Stephen (Brianna) Eighmey, Courtney Thomas; his sister, Sandy Vancena and his grandchildren, Preston and Liam Eighmey, Greyson and Colton Thomas, Blakely Lowry and Lily and Mila Eighmey.
