Sally Ann (Hohman) Horvath
September 22, 1941 - June 16, 2026
Sally Ann (Hohman) Horvath passed away peacefully on June 16, 2026, at the age of 84. She was surrounded by loved ones and familiar, warm faces as she was guided Home.
Â
Sally was born on September 22, 1941. She was one of three children born to Cletus and Lillian (Phillips) Hohman. Sally was a graduate of Ida High School, where she ultimately met her high school sweetheart. On November 11, 1961, she wed Gary Edwin Horvath at St. Joseph's Catholic Church in Ida, Michigan. The couple were blessed with three children and were honored to spend nearly 65 blissful years married to one another.
Â
An avid seamstress, Sally spent much of her free time sewing and creating numerous pieces for her loved ones. Dolls, quilts, clothing, and décor only scratched the surface of her artistic ability behind the sewing machine. She was renowned for patching holes, taking in dresses, and creating something entirely new for anyone in need of a fix. Sally transformed this passion into a service role at Joann Fabrics, where she shared her love of sewing and self-taught skills with the community. She also loved watching hummingbirds visit her feeder and eagerly anticipated the arrival of the first one each spring.
Â
When life began to slow down, Sally and Gary packed their bags and hit the road. At first, they enjoyed cruises to Alaska and road trips to Texas, with numerous stops throughout the West along the way. They later upgraded to a camper and spent weeks at a time traveling to their favorite destinations, including Ludington, Michigan, and Berlin, Ohio. The Horvaths became regulars at several campgrounds, where they met people from all over while family and friends joined in the fun. Some of Sally's fondest memories were made around the campfire, often accompanied by a sweet cherry pie treat made by Gary.
Â
Sally was as vivacious as they come and never failed to slip in a witty comment, complete with a facial expression to match. Her bold and caring personality, paired with her dimpled, radiant smile, made her someone who stood out and whom her family and friends cherished with their whole hearts. Known as "Mimi" to those closest to her, she was happiest when spending time with her family during holidays and gatherings.
Â
Sally was preceded in death by her parents; her brother, Richard Hohman; her sister, Margaret Vandercook; her brother-in-law, Richard Horvath; her mother-in-law, Eudora Horvath; and her two granddaughters, Paige Horvath and Olivia Dowler.
She is survived by her husband, Gary Horvath; a brother; Jack (Sarah) Hohman; her three children, Valerie (Stephen Dowler) Horvath , Lori (Jeff) Higgerson, and Anthony (Chris) Horvath; her seven grandchildren, Tyler (Mandy) Stein, Neil (Sarah) Stein, Josh Horvath, Zach (Katie) Horvath, Sarah (Kyle) Halladay, Grant Dowler, and Erica Dowler; six great-grandchildren, with one more on the way; and many family friends whom she held dear to her heart.
Close friends and family will gather privately for a celebration of life to honor the woman who brought joy, laughter, and love to every gathering. Though her presence will be greatly missed, the memories she created and the legacy of love she leaves behind will continue to live on in the hearts of her family and friends for generations to come.
