Mary Louise Gorzkiewicz-Meagher

November 5, 1948 - April 4, 2026

Mary Louise Gorzkiewicz-Meagher, sometimes lovingly known as Mary Lou or Maria, passed away unexpectedly, on April 4, 2026, in Ypsilanti, Michigan, at the age of 77. Born Mary Louise Garcia on November 5, 1948, in Tecumseh, Michigan, she lived a life marked by faith, dedication, and love for her family and community.

 

Mary spoke three languages, English, Spanish and German.  Her journey was one of perseverance and achievement. She Achieved a first-degree black belt in karate—a testament to her determination and strength.  In 1981, she earned her high school diploma from the Willow Run Adult Education Program, graduating as valedictorian.  She later attended Monroe County Community College.  Her professional career culminated with her retirement from GM Powertrain in Toledo, Ohio, after 30 years of service.

 

Family was at the heart of Mary's life. She is survived by her children: Karen (John) Lucht, Lisa (Scott) Nash, Herbert (Alicia) Gorzkiewicz Jr., and Max (Jamie) Gorzkiewicz. Her legacy continues through her grandchildren: Nicholas (Shannon) Lucht, Paul (fiancée Andrea) Lucht, Kurtis (fiancée Laura) Lucht, Austin (Alexandria) French, and Lucas (fiancée Leyla) Nash; as well as her great-grandchildren: Harper, Hudson, Taylor, Reagan, and Kendra. Mary also leaves behind her siblings: Marvin Garcia, Michael (Carol) Garcia, Marta (Ron) Box, and Marcia Vandercook.

 

She was predeceased by her husband, Herbert Gorzkiewicz in 1988, her second husband, Kenneth Meagher in 2021, her parents Margarito Garcia in 2021 and Juanita Gray in 1988; her brother Martin David Garcia in 2021; and her nephew Aaron Garcia in 2023.

 

Mary found joy in life’s simple pleasures. She loved cooking and baking for those around her and had a talent for creating beautiful floral arrangements. Her green thumb brought life to countless plants she cared for with devotion. She enjoyed trips to the casino and cherished watching shows like The Chosen and Survivor. Above all else, she treasured time spent with family and friends.

 

A woman of deep faith, Mary prayed her rosary daily and found solace in prayer through the "Hallow" app as she sought to deepen her spiritual understanding. Her strong faith guided her throughout life and inspired those who knew her.

Mary will be remembered for her joyful spirit, generosity, hardworking nature, and unwavering care for others. She worked hard and loved deeply—a legacy that will continue to inspire all who were fortunate enough to know her.

 

May Mary's memory bring comfort to those who loved her dearly. A Visitation will be held on Friday, April 10, 2026, from 2:00PM to 8:00 PM at Capaul Funeral Home, 8216 Ida West Rd., Ida, MI 48140.  A Funeral Mass will be held on Saturday, April 11, 2026, at 11:00 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish- St. Joseph Church 8295 Van Aiken St., Ida, MI 48140.  Presider Rev. Dr. Michael A. Woroniewicz and Concelebrant Rev. Christopher D. Muer. Following Mass there will be a procession to Maple Grove Cemetery in Dundee for Internment.  After the Internment everyone is invited back to the St. Gabriel Parish-St. Joseph Social Hall to a luncheon.
