Â
Born on June 1, 1973, in Monroe, Michigan, Daniel was the son of Clifford and Jayne
(Margraves) Johnson. He graduated from Ida High School with the Class of 1991.
Daniel married Jennifer Heckel on April 26, 1997. She preceded him in death on March
31, 2003. He later married Sarah Weiss on August 30, 2008, in Monroe, Michigan.
Daniel proudly served as the West District Crew Leader for the Monroe County Road
Commission, where he dedicated 23 years of service. Prior to that, he was employed by
North Star Steel for many years.
Â
A lifelong animal lover and outdoorsman, Daniel was a member of the Belgian Draft
Horse Association and spent nearly 40 years raising, showing, and caring for Belgian
draft horses. One of his greatest joys was exhibiting his horses each year at the Monroe
County Fair with his family.
Â
Daniel loved farming, hunting, horses, and anything that kept him outdoors. Rarely one
to sit inside, he found his greatest peace and purpose working the farm, caring for his
animals, and spending time in nature. He was known for his strong work ethic,
dependability, and willingness to lend a helping hand whenever it was needed. Whether
caring for his family, his animals, or his land, Daniel took great pride in the people and
things that mattered most to him.
Â
Daniel is survived by his wife, Sarah; his children, Daniel Jr. (Breanna Braun), Jeffrey
(Abigail), Abigail, Jessica, and Jacob; his father, Clifford Johnson; his siblings, David,
Dane (Heather), Deena (Ryan) Salenbien, Desiree Setzler, and Drew (Jessica); and
many nieces and nephews.
Â
He is also survived by his former in-laws, Jim and Yvonne Heckel of Ida, and his father-
in-law, Daniel Weiss of Monroe.
Â
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Jennifer; his mother, Jayne; and his mother-
in-law, Wendy Weiss.
Â
Memorial contributions may be made to the Johnson children.
