Mary Jo Perkins

Mary Jo Perkins, age 86, passed away Friday, January 20, 2023, at Oakleaf Village in Toledo, Ohio, with family at her side.

Born January 4, 1937, in Fairfield, Iowa, Mary Jo was the daughter of Joe Clare and Mary Gladys (Maddix) Brannan. She married Harold M. Perkins on July 3, 1954, in Fairfield. He preceded her in death on January 5, 2008.

In addition to her role as wife and mother, Mary Jo was an audiology aide in the Hearing Impaired Department at Ida Public Schools for 25 years. After retiring from Ida Schools in 1997, she volunteered with elections and the library in Ida, and Heartbeat of Monroe among other organizations. She enjoyed playing cards and crafting, but her love was for family. Mary Jo hosted every holiday and birthday, sleepovers for the grandchildren, and attended every activity – always with a smile.    

Mary Jo is survived by her children, Carl (Michele) Perkins of Adrian, Sandra Sweebe of Toledo, Ohio; Douglas (Deidre) Perkins of Monroe, and Scott (Veronica) Perkins of Ypsilanti; grandchildren, Paula (Marcus) Ma, Troy (Sarah) Sweebe, Jill (Brian Stuckey) Perkins, Elena Perkins, Mitchell Perkins, Maria Perkins, and Bryan (Brea Krumn) Perkins;  great grandchildren, Claire, Leah, Evan, and Maximus Ma, and Benjamin Sweebe; as well as sister-in-law, Laura Hansen, and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Mary Jo was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Gordon Brannan.

Family and friends may visit Wednesday, January 25, 2023, from 10 am until services begin at 2 pm at Capaul Funeral Home in Ida. Burial will follow at Lulu Cemetery.
