Margaret Emelia Flatt

Margaret Emelia Flatt, 86, of Monroe, passed away on December 22, 2023, at Springcreek Rehabilitation & Nursing Center in Adrian.

 

Margaret was born at home on December 31, 1936, to Norman and Mary (Lutz) Woelmer of Monroe. She graduated from Ida High School in 1955 and worked at Dana Corporation, Peoples Federal Savings Bank, University of Michigan, and Green Meadows Golf Course. Margaret married Gerald Flatt on October 27, 1962, at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church in Monroe, where she was a lifelong member and taught Sunday School for many years. A devoted housewife and mother, she enjoyed gardening, playing cards, attending her grandchildren’s events and spending time with family and friends. She loved to bake and sold sweet breads at Monroe Farmers Market. Margaret was a skilled crafter, making and selling dried floral wreaths and swags at craft shows for over 40 years.

 

Margaret is survived by her husband Gerald, son Greg (Anna) Flatt, daughters Diane Gregory, Karen (Edward) St. Bernard and Sharon Flatt; brothers Robert (Loretta) Woelmer and Gerald (Cheryl) Woelmer; sister Donna Stotz; sisters-in-law Lena Woelmer and Joyce (Jim) Campey; grandchildren Laurel (Andy) Seegert, Norman Gregory, Ellen (Michael) Rodeno, Steven (Alison) Gregory, Devin St. Bernard, Morgan St. Bernard, Edward (Kelsey) St. Bernard, Carmen Flatt, Corinne Flatt; and 15 great-grandchildren. Margaret was preceded in death by her parents, brothers Melvin and Donald Woelmer, sister Lois Woelmer, brother-in-law Erhard Stotz and sister-in-law Jeanette Woelmer.

 

Family and friends may visit Capaul Funeral Home in Ida on Tuesday, January 2, 2024, from 2- 8pm. Margaret will lie in state on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church from 10am until funeral services at 11am. Pastor Curtis Garland will officiate. Burial will follow immediately after at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery.
