Jeannie Lynne (Devine) Metz

August 3, 1952 - September 3, 2023

Jeannie Lynne (Devine) Metz, 71, of Ida, Michigan, surrounded by her family at home, won her crown and went to be with Jesus on September 3rd, 2023.  Family and friends can visit Jeannie at Capaul Funeral Home (Ida, MI) on Friday September 8, 2023, from 2pm to 8pm.  She will lie-in-state at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church (Monroe, MI) on Saturday September 9, 2023, from 10am until the funeral service commences at 11am.  Jeannie’s burial will take place at East Ida Immanuel Cemetery (Ida, MI) immediately following the funeral service.  Pastor Curtis Garland will officiate.

 

Born on August 3, 1952, in Monroe, Jeannie was the daughter of the late James and E. Lane (Palmiter) Devine.

 

Jeannie graduated from Ida High School in 1970 where she was a member of the national honor society, Judy Gieman award winner for best cheerleader, was a member of the cast of both Junior and Senior plays, sang in the musical group “The Streaksations”, was Coach O’s Secretary and still had time to play in both the marching band and the concert band.

 

In the spring of 1967, at a sock hop hosted by a good friend, she was asked to dance by a young man who would become a lifelong boyfriend, companion, shoulder to cry on, husband, lover, and father to their 3 children. Jim and Jeannie were married on September 29th, 1972, at East Ida Immanuel Lutheran church. They celebrated 50 years of marriage last year with family.

 

Jeannie continued her education to become an RN at the Toledo Hospital School of Nursing. After Graduation from Nursing School, she worked as a Registered Nurse at three different hospitals over her 40+ years as an active RN. Mercy Memorial, Monroe, Toledo Hospital, Toledo and Howell Hospital, Howell, Michigan. Jeannie worked in several different sections of the hospitals, but she found her passion as an intensive care nurse working midnights for over 30 years so she could be with her children during the day for their school activities.  She retired from her Nursing career as a Certified Diabetes Educator for ProMedica.

 

Jeannie is survived by her husband Jim, her children: James John (JJ) and Julie Metz, Michelle (Metz) Dunn, Robert and Renee Metz, Her siblings Holly (Jimmy) Potter, Hugh Devine and Amy Kreger, Grandchildren: Lani Dunn, Dillon Metz, Lia Metz, John Metz, and Catherine Metz. Brothers and Sister-In-law’s Dick and Jane Metz, Robin Metz, Paul and Shari Metz, Jerry and Doris Metz and several nieces and nephews.

 

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by brother-in-law’s John Kreger and Chuck Metz.

 

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made out to Hospice of Northwest Ohio and/or East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church.
