James Roscoe Willoughby – 76 years of Petersburg, MI – died Tuesday May 2, 2023, at Saint Joseph Mercy Hospital. Family and friends may call at Capaul Funeral Home in Ida, MI on Tuesday May 9, 2023, from 2pm to 8pm. James will lie-in-state at Capaul Funeral Home on Wednesday May 10, 2023, from 10am until the funeral service at 11am. Burial will take place immediately following the service at Pleasant View Cemetery in Petersburg, MI. Pastors John Fultz and Ron Morgan will officiate.

 

Born on February 2, 1947 – in LaFollette, TN – James was the son of William Woodrow and Minnie (Wilson) Willoughby. He was a machine operator for 32 ½ years at Toledo GM, retiring in 2002. James married Charlotte Douglas on June 6, 1970, in LaSalle, MI. He was baptized at Petersburg Missionary Baptist Church on September 14th, 1997. When he wasn’t working, James enjoyed four wheeling in the Tennessee mountains, watching hummingbirds, listening to oldies music, drinking ice cold Pepsi, playing Solitaire on his phone, spending quality time with his grandchildren, and never missed an episode of Wheel of Fortune.

 

Survivors include his wife Charlotte, his son James (Stacy Rickett) Willoughby Jr., his daughters Patricia (Tracy) Ault and Lisa Book, his brother William (Barbara) Willoughby Jr., his sisters Lois (Phil) Swain and Betty (James) Kitts, his grandchildren Gabe (Adrienne) Ault, Eryn (Lucas Gerweck) Book, Walter Book, Cheyanne Ault, Craig Ault, Jessica Ault, Heaven Ault, Ciara Ault, Ariana Ault, Gabby Ault, John Ault, and Jacob Ault, and his great-grandchildren Dawson and Aubree Ault. James was preceded in death by his parents and brothers Condy Wilson and Arnold Willoughby.
