Carolyn Sue (Coutcher) Dentel

November 6, 1939 - December 8, 2023

Carolyn Sue (Coutcher) Dentel passed on 12/8/2023 in her home in Ida, Michigan. Carolyn, best known as “Sue” was born on November 6, 1939, in Sylvania, Ohio to Kenneth and Ruth (Hine) Coutcher. She graduated from Burnham High School in 1957 and worked at DeVilbiss Manufacturing then as a secretary at Toledo Trust Bank. She married James Dentel on November 1, 1969, at Lulu United Methodist Church, where she became a member.


Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Barbara Herzig of Toledo, and Janet Watkins of Sylvania. She is survived by her husband James, brother, William Coutcher of Traverse City, MI, three daughters, Robin (Mark) Johnson of Ottawa Lake, MI, Vicki (Brian) Holycross of Ida, and Lisa (Scott) Bliss of Ida; Nine grandchildren, Abigail and Aubrey Johnson, Dalton, Dustin, Dillon and Dane Holycross, and Ariana, Dakota and Madalyn Bliss. Carolyn’s life revolved around her family. Many memories were made during camping trips and family gatherings. She had many hobbies including knitting, sewing, gardening, reading, and with the most recent being diamond art. She made many handmade bears, quilts, and blankets and gifted them to family and friends.    


Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will take place at Capaul’s Funeral Home in Ida on Wednesday 12/13/2023 at 11:00am. Gathering hours are from 9-11am with the funeral following. Officiating is Pastor Willie Lass from Grace United Methodist Church of Britton, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital or the VFW.
