Elmer Eugene Hehl

November 20, 1933 - June 4th, 2021

Elmer was born November 20, 1933, went home to be with the Lord & Savior on June 4, 2021, with his loving family at his side at Hospice of Lenawee, Adrian, MI. Elmer was born at home on the Hehl Homestead. Father Elmer C. Hehl & Mother Laura Margaret Hoppert Hehl. Youngest of 6 children he was baptized & confirmed at the East Ida Immanuel Lutheran Church on Albain Road where he attended Sunday School and Walther League. Was active later in the church being a Trustee for many years. He attended Ida Public School and graduated in May 1951. He was very active in all sports while in high school. After graduation, he took over running the family farm. In 1953 he married his high school sweetheart, Jeannie Eipperle, with a long marriage lasting 68 years; his wife worked with him side by side on the farm. After their marriage, he bought the farm from his folks. They had 4 children, 1 daughter, and 3 sons, who all learned to work on the farm. In 1961 he worked at Dundee Products, then in 1962 went to work at Dundee Cement. While working the jobs & farming he went to RETS in Toledo for 1 yr, to take up Electronics, then to the Carl T Cotter Apprentice School for 2 1/2 yrs where he received a Journeyman's Certificate from the Dept. of Labor. Then he became a Journeyman Electrician for Dundee Cement. A job he held until retiring in 1990 to move to Florida where he worked for the Knapp Family where he was a Resident Manager for a new manufactured homes park called Schalamar Creek. He was the manager there for 15 yrs. Then for 5 years, he was Maintenance Manager. Then returned to Onsted, MI, in 2013 and joined the Lutheran Church of the Lakes, Addison, MI. While in Florida he was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Lakeland Florida. Elmer enjoyed golfing & bowling, he was a member of several teams, and played ball in his earlier years in a league. Elmer enjoyed traveling to many states here and out of the country.


He is survived by his wife, Jeannie, 4 children, Vicky (Marvin) Skampo, Chad (Karen), Curtis, Scott (Laura) Hehl, 8 grandchildren, Tyler (Rachael), Erik (Julia) & Troy (Tracy) Skampo, Kari (James) Bryja, Erin (Justin) Shafer, Lindsay (Brad) Rudasill, Jennifer (Jacob) Webb, Mitchell (Jasmine) Hehl. 14 great-grandchildren, Joseph, Ashur, Gabrielle, Nevaeh Bryja, Hadley and Brooklyn Shafer, Lucy, Madden and Benjamin Skampo, Ruby and Evie Rudasill, Savanna Webb, and Maeve Hehl, and many nieces and nephews and friends. Elmer was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Glen, Donald, Clayton, Vernon, and 1 sister Myrna O'lone.


A Memorial Gathering for Mr. Hehl will take place on Sunday, June 13, 2021, At Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, from 2-7 PM. A Memorial Gathering will take place on Monday, June 14, 2021, from 10 AM until the services at 11 AM. at the Lutheran Church of the Lakes. Pastor Tyson Bentz will officiate. Cremation has taken place. The burial of the cremains will take place at a later date at Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.


In Lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Hospice of Lenawee or The Lutheran Church of the Lakes.
