Betty Jean Fountain

January 28th, 1950 - February 17th, 2021

Betty Jean Fountain, 89 years, of Ida, Michigan, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, February 17, 2021 at Spectrum Health Fuller Campus Nursing Home in Grand Rapids, Michigan. She was born August 14, 1931 in Harrogate, Tennessee. Betty was the daughter of the late Jesse Stanley and Allie Maurine (Ramsey) Carter. She was a 1949 graduate of Monroe High School.


On January 28, 1950 Betty married the love of her life, George James Fountain at the home of John and Buelah Owens in Monroe, Michigan. The ceremony was performed by the Rev. E. E. Patterson.


Betty was a telephone operator and a clerk at Sears and Roebuck prior to being a full-time mother. After her two daughters grew up, she was a consensus taker for Monroe County.


Betty is survived by her two daughters, Paula Susette Cochran of Caledonia, MI, and Carol Georgette Fountain (Gerald) Wooten of Kalamazoo, MI, four grandchildren Jeremy Allan (Amanda) Cochran of Freeport, MI, Tiffany Susette Cochran of Greenville, MI, Joshua James (Mandy) Cochran of Middleville, MI, and Maria Allie Wooten of Toronto, Canada, and six great-grandchildren Garron, Isabella, Jacob, Sabastian, Emily, and Christian. She is also survived by two loving siblings JoAnn “Bobbie” (Donald) Beason of Dandridge, TN, and Mickey C. (Nancy) Carter of Monroe, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband of over 50 years George James Fountain, her father Jesse Stanley Carter, her mother Maurine Allie (Ramsey) Carter, her sister and brother-in-law Jeniece (Clyde) Thomas, and her sister and brother-in-law Patricia L. (Buel) Campbell.


Due to the current COVID-19 Pandemic, visitation will be private, and she will be cremated and laid to rest in Harrogate, TN. next to her beloved husband at Scott Cemetery in Harrogate, TN.


Betty’s family would like to thank the wonderful employees of Spectrum Health Fuller Campus and Spectrum Health Hospice for their kindness and care that was given to Betty over the years.
