February 2, 2016 - December 19, 2025

After valiantly fighting the good fight for 9 years, Kaiden “Our Superhero” Wertenberger of Temperance, MI, passed away on Friday December 19, 2025.  Family and friends may visit Capaul Funeral Home (Ida, MI) on Monday December 29, 2025, from 2pm to 8pm.  Kaiden will lie-in-state at Capaul Funeral Home on Tuesday December 30, 2025, from 10am until the funeral service commences at 11am.  Kaiden’s burial will take place at Lulu Cemetery (Ida, MI) immediately following his funeral service.  Pastor Wyatt Blosser will officiate.

Born on February 2, 2016, in Toledo, Ohio, Kaiden was the courageous son of Dustin and Jennifer (Koepplinger) Wertenberger.  Kaiden was a student at Monroe County ISD.  He was kind-hearted, compassionate, funny, and spread positivity and joy to those around him.  Kaiden loved music, was fascinated by all different sorts of lights, and camping with his family.  Throughout the course of his life, Our Superhero Kaiden’s amazing story has been documented on a dedicated Facebook page called, “Kaiden John’s Journey.”  And speaking of incredible accomplishments, Kaiden was the T.H.A.N.K.S sponsor child in 2017 and was recently chosen as one of the “Race for the Kids Miracle Children of 2025!”

Kaiden was such a blessing. To know him was to love him. He was the greatest teacher. He taught doctors to think of things differently and he taught family, and teachers his way. Kaiden never followed the books and did everything on his terms. He was the author of his own story. Just when you thought you figured him out, he would do something else to surprise you. He had such an infectious smile!

Survivors include his parents Jennifer and Dustin, his grandparents Laura and John Meyer, Michael and Brenda Koepplinger, and Brenda Wertenberger, his great-grandmother Dottie Dail, his brother Xavier Wertenberger, and his sisters Gracie and Adelyn Wertenberger, and many aunts, uncles, and cousins.  Kaiden was preceded in death by his grandfather Lonnie Wertenberger and many great-grandparents.

He will forever hold a special place in all our hearts. A true fighter who faced life against all odds, he is now free from every limitation and pain. His spirit will always remind us that no matter how hard things feel, it’s important to slow down, enjoy the lights and the music, and find the strength to keep fighting, even in the toughest moments.

Fly high and dance with your whole body until we meet again.

Memorial contributions can be made out to University of Michigan Mott Children’s Hospital and/or Race For The Kids.
