Robert “Bob” Lee Payne

Robert “Bob” Lee Payne – 86 years of Monroe, MI – died on Monday December 18, 2023, at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital (Ypsilanti, MI).  Family and friends may visit Capaul Funeral Home (Ida, MI) on Wednesday December 27, 2023, from 2pm to 8pm.  Robert will lie-in-state on Thursday December 28, 2023, from 10am until the funeral service commences at 11am.  Burial will take place immediately following the funeral at Rath Cemetery (Monroe, MI).  Pastor Mark McCaskill of Cornerstone Baptist Church will officiate.

Born on July 20, 1937 – in Ann Arbor, MI – Robert was the son of Robert and Grace (Larson) Payne.  He worked for Fingerle Lumber for 54 years as a Hi-Low Driver, retiring in 2019.  Robert married Sandra Sayer and later married Barbara Romeo.  Robert was a member of the Moose Lodge in Ann Arbor, MI.  When he wasn’t working, Robert enjoyed watching Spaghetti Westerns, shopping, collecting model cars, model tractors, and model firetrucks, along with spending quality time with his family and friends.

Survivors include his best friend and caretaker, Judy Raymo whom he lived with; son Robert (Jenni) Payne, daughters Sherri Fultz and Robin (John) LaRonde, grandchildren Sebastian, Jefferson, Malcolm, Angel, Shawn Simms, and Noah LaRonde, and 9 great-grandchildren.  He was preceded in death by his parents, brothers Edwin and James Payne, and half-brother Jerry Kreager.
