Robert “Bob” Daniel Lowry

Robert “Bob” Daniel Lowry

July 19, 1952 - March 15, 2023

Bob was born to Talmage and Bessie Mae (Fine) Lowry. The Fifth of their five children together, the baby! And he never let us forget it! Weighing in at 13 lb. he never was a baby.

Bob loved growing up on the 50-acre farm in Temperance. He could tell tons of stories from his youth.

Bob married Jean Etts on 6-30-1978. Jean had a month old son, Jason that Bob took under his wing and helped raise and nurture.

Bob loved the hippie life in the late 60’s and 70’s and he and Jean lived it to the fullest for a while. Bob called himself the “World’s Oldest Hippie”. Bob lived the simple life with no need for thrills and frills. Bob loved the “old ways”, he canned tomatoes and pickles from the garden. He made sauerkraut, jelly and apple butter like his mom did.

Bob loved God, his family and friends with no limits. He liked nothing better than a party in the yard, playing horseshoes with his buddies or just sitting on the porch, talking, laughing, and telling stories. He loved music and could sing any “oldie” that was mentioned.

The only thing that Bob ever fought was his bad heart and that was what finally took him at 70 years old.

Bob was a hard worker. He worked 40 plus years at Unique Tool and Die in Toledo, Ohio. Starting out as die-setter, press operator and working up to supervisor. He finally retired in 2019. Bob made many friends at work. Meeting one special lady, Melanie Gschwind, that he loved and spent over 20 years together.

Bob leaves behind his longtime companion Melanie, his step-son, Jason (Lisa) Lowry, his brother, John (Nellie) Lowry, his sister, Martha Slinker, nieces Pam, La Dean, Lisa, Gina, Victoria, Kimberly, Christine, his nephews, Bill, Jess, Jon, Mark, one uncle (out of many) Junior (Janey) Fine, Jason and Lisa’s 2 children, Trevor and Abigail and many cousins on the Lowry and Fine sides. Bob was also proud to be  “Great Uncle” to his great nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death were his parents, wife Jean, brothers, Tom (half-brother), Joe, sister Sharon and his nephews Peter and Gene.

Friends may gather at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI, on Tuesday March 21, 2023, from 11AM until the services at 2 PM. Burial will be in Whiteford Union Cemetery, Lambertville, MI.

Memorial contributions can be made to: The American Heart Association.
