Anthony “Rocky” Oberski
1960 - July 19th, 2022
Anthony “Rocky” Oberski 62 yrs of Ida, MI, died Tuesday July 19, 2022, in his home. He was the fifth child born to the union of Anthony “Tony” and Romelda Oberski. He was active in Scouting, he attended Ida Public Schools graduating in 1979. He became a devoted Ida Volunteer Firefighter and retired as Asst. Chief in May 2013. With his brother Roger he continued to operate the family business, Tony’s Sons Plumbing and Heating, until his medical retirement. He married Kathy Henning on March 6, 1993 and they raised a beautiful family together.
Throughout his youth Rocky volunteered to coach Little League baseball and served as an Umpire. In High School he thrived as a wrestler and football player, earning his Varsity letter. His dedication to his community started at an early age. The Ida Fireman’s Park was in his backyard and was his second home. He always enjoyed planting trees at the Park in memory of the men like his father who served the Ida area community with such devotion.
He enjoyed running and operating the kids’ games at the Ida Fire Dept. annual Labor Day Homecoming. The kids loved trying to win a goldfish from Fireman Rocky’s dime toss stand and many fish were eaten in the beer stand. He was very active in the lives of his nieces, nephews and many other children whose lives he enriched with his love and support.
Rocky was preceded in death by Tony and Romelda Oberski, Charles Kneller and Pasquale Diterlizzi. He is survived by his siblings Darlene (Paul), Ricky (Rose), Roger (Kim), Connie (Ed), and Rodney (Pam), and by his children Tiffany (Ryan), Ashleigh (Ann) and Jake, and by his grandchildren Colin and Elizabeth.
He will lie-in-state on Tuesday July 26, 2022, in the Ida Firemen’s Park, Ida, MI, from 10 AM until the Mass at 11AM. Fr. Don Geyman will officiate. Cremation will occur after.
