Charles “Chuck” Allen Herndon, Jr.

May 1950 - July 25th, 2021

Charles “Chuck” Allen Herndon, Jr. of Deerfield, MI, age 71, died in his home, unexpectedly of heart failure, on Sunday, July 25, 2021.


Born in May 1950, of Charles Allen & Jacqueline (Sisson) Herndon in Wyandotte. He attended Roosevelt High, Class of Summer 1968. Charles began his career as a Millwright at Ford Motor Company, before he transitioned to the trucking industry as a partner of K&H Transport, followed by Intrel. In 2018, he retired from Swift Transportation as an Area Service Manager.

He married Donna (Ferraiuolo) Copeman in 1969 & his second marriage was to Kay (Seitz) Herndon in 1995.

Charles was a very straight-forward, open-hearted, and loving man with a slightly quirky sense of humor. He was an active member of St. Gabriel Catholic Church, Ida, MI. He enjoyed family gatherings like hayrides & kickball. He truly appreciated and took pride in his home, planting his garden and taking care of his fruit trees. He will be greatly missed by us all.

Preceded in death by children Shawn Herndon & Leigh (Schrader) Bonta, both parents, and brother-in-law Kenneth (Sandie) Seitz

Survived by his wife Kay, children Scot Herndon, Stephanie (Schrader) Jeff Kennedy, Kimberly (Schrader) Dan Sieler, Jacqueline (Herndon) Dan Seitz, Bill (Michelle) Schrader, grandchildren Kiara Herndon, Alex Sieler, Samantha, Jordin & Josh Kennedy, Erik & Ryan Seitz, Joseph Herndon-Hull, Mia Hull, and Lillian Schrader, great grandchildren Aubrie & Kinsley Jenkins, Harper Kennedy, brother Tommy (Susan) Herndon and sister Gay Susan, both of Texas, and brother-in-law Donald (Sandra) Seitz

Charles will lie-instate on Saturday, July 31, 2021 from 10 AM until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11 AM at St. Gabriel Catholic Parish, St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida, MI. Father Michael Brown and Deacon Mike Hammond will officiate. Burial of cremains will take place later at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Monroe, MI.

In lieu of flowers memorial contributions can be made to family wishes.
