Lonathon Henry Spoering

1954 - 2020

Lonathon Henry Spoering “Lonnie” age 66 of Petersburg, MI passed away peacefully in his home surrounded by family on December 27, 2020, after a long hard battle with cancer.  Lonnie was born September 20, 1954, to Franklin and Hazel (Reid) Spoering of Ida, MI.  He attended Ida Public Schools, graduating in 1972.  He married his high school sweetheart, Gayl Kreps at First Baptist Church in Temperance, MI on October 12, 1973.  They were blessed with 47 years of marriage.  Lonnie worked at the Dundee Cement Plant from 1974 to 1998 as a Millwright, he then went to work for Ford Motor Company in 1998 until he retired in 2014.

Lonnie, dad, “papa” loved to travel with his wife, family, and friends, taking many trips out west, down to Florida and up to Northern Michigan at their family cabin.  He enjoyed spending time with his children and grandchildren, fishing and swimming in their pond.  He was truly a devoted loving family man who never missed a chance to be in the crowd supporting his grandkids in every activity they participated in.  Lonnie was a member of the Dundee United Methodist Church since 2001, was a member of Monroe Rifle and Pistol Club where he enjoyed shooting with his grandsons on an indoor pistol league.  Known as a man of few words by many, but also a strong man who followed his faith in God through life, always willing to help others out when they needed him.  There are very few men as strong and devoted to the family as Lonnie was, he will be missed severely by all his family and friends.

Lonnie is survived by his loving wife Gayl, daughter Jennifer (Rich) Haller, son Andrew (Julie) Spoering as well as five grandchildren Karleigh, Allen, Andrew, Averie, and Abby that he loved with all his heart.  He is also survived by a sister Frankie (Joe) Gulch.  He was proceeded in death by his parents.

A celebration of Lonnie’s life will be held at Dundee United Methodist Church.

Due to COVID restrictions, there will be no public visitation, but your thoughts and prayers for the family in this time of grief are greatly appreciated.

Thank you to all our family and friends who have supported us during this difficult time.
