Max Gene Jobe Jr.
1952 - 2020
On December 25, 2020, Max Gene Jobe Jr. loving
son, father, and grandfather passed away
unexpectedly in his home at age 68. Max was born
in Toledo, Ohio on March 3, 1952, to Max Sr. and
Betty (Stapleton) Jobe. In 1958 Max Sr. married
Margaret Lamming and together they raised Max
in Ida, Michigan. Max attended Ida High School
and graduated in 1970. Max worked for Ford
Motor Company in Maumee, Ohio as an
automation production worker and retired after
30 years.
In April 1976 he married Norma Selfe and had two
children, Heather and Craig Jobe. In May 1990 he
married Marla Vergiels and had two children, Rob
Vergiels and Nic Jobe.
Max was a devoted University of Michigan and Ida
sports follower and could always be spotted in the
stands supporting his children and grandchildren.
He was known for his loud energy and
occasionally being thrown out of a game when
the referee made a call he didn’t agree with. His
infamous line “take care of the ball” will forever
echo throughout the Ida gymnasium.
One of his favorite pastimes was spending time
with his children and playing with his
grandchildren. His face would light up whenever
he got the chance to talk about his family.
