Robert L. Mathis, 82 years, of Raisinville Twp, died Wednesday morning, January 11, 2012, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Ypsilanti, MI. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Saturday from 1-8 PM. He will lie in state at St. John's Lutheran Church, Dundee, Sunday, January 15, from 12 PM until services at 1 PM. Pastor Annette Griffin will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg.

Born October 4, 1929, he was the son of Herman and Elva B. (Nickel) Mathis. Robert was born, raised, and farmed his entire life on the family farm in Raisinville Township. A 1946 Dundee High School Graduate, where he was the youngest in his class,  married JoAnn Brossia August 20, 1949, in St. John's Lutheran Church, Dundee. They celebrated their 60th Wedding Anniversary in 2009. A member of St. John's Church, he held various offices in the church, and loved traveling and being with his children and grandchildren. Robert was a member of the Dundee School Board for twenty years, serving as Vice President and Secretary. He was also Past President of the Farm Bureau, and a member of the Corn Growers Association and the Soy Bean Growers Association.

Surviving are: his wife, JoAnn; sons, Dr. David (Debbie) Mathis, Mark (Valynda) Mathis; daughters, Melinda (Rick) Hettinger, Dawn (Andy) Quackenbush, Kristina (Matt) Monarch; sister, Lois Pearch; grandchildren, Dana, Lottie, Garrett, Daniel, Oliver, Erin, Kristen, Chelsea, Joseph, Corey, Michael, Sarah; great-grandchildren, Noah, Leah, and Guenivere. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Donald, and a granddaughter, Kayse.
