James A. Root, 61 yrs, of LaSalle, died Thursday, May 20th at Medilodge of Monroe. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Sunday, from 1-9 PM. He will lie in state at Grace Lutheran Church, Monroe, Monday, from 10 AM until services at 11 AM. Pastor Ron Schultz will officiate. Burial will be in Gethsemane Cemetery.

Born August 31, 1948, in Monroe, James was the son of John C. and Laura (Ruling) Root, Sr. He was a 1966 Ida High School Graduate, and married Carol Neimann March 16, 1969, in Monroe. James was an owner operator of the JR Transportation Co, and was a member of the American Trucking Association. He was also a member of Grace Lutheran Church and the Southeast Michigan Antique Tractor and Engine Association. James was an avid hunter and fisherman, was a huge fan of NASCAR, and loved International Harvester Tractors.

Survivors include: his wife, Carol; a son James A. Root II; a daughter, Julie (Ian) McGonigal; a brother, John C. (Lori) Root, Jr; a sister, Beverly (James) Brownell; and a grandson, Aidan. He was preceded in death by his parents.
