Ernest H. "Ernie" Folk, 77 yrs, of Temperance, died Friday, December 31, 2010. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Tuesday from 12-8 PM. He will lie in state at Cornerstone Baptist Church, Ida, Wednesday, January 5, 2011, from 10 AM until services at 11 AM. Pastor Tim Iocoangeli will officiate. Cremation will follow.

 

Born January 20, 1933, in Erie, MI, Ernie was the son of James and Anna (Mominee) Folk. He married Mary "Elaine" Colwell, June 20, 1953, in Ida. Ernest served with the US Army from February 1953 to December 1954, earning the Korean Service Ribbon, the United Nations Service Medal, and the National Defense Service Medal. He was employed by the Erie Alphalfa Mill for 20 yrs, retiring in 1996, and also was a truck driver for the Roadway Express between Toledo and Monroe. Mr. Folk was a member of Cornerstone Baptist Church and the Teamsters, Local 20, of which he was Union Steward for 2 yrs. His hobbies included gardening, woodworking, playing cards, puzzle books, watching Tiger Baseball, and football games with the boys, camping, and everything family related.

 

Surviving are: his wife, Elaine; sons, David, Daniel (Paula); daughter, Peggy (Anthony) Bonnough; sisters, Betty (Clayton) Holtz, LaraBelle Navarre, Anna Mae (Richard) Winkelman; grandchildren, Amy and Chris Barrie, Laura and Jorden Cowen, Julie and Jeremy Fielder, Michael and Sara Bonnough, Jennifer Edwards, David Folk II, Ryan W. Peters, Ross W. Peters; and six great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by: a grandson, Bradley Folk; three brothers, George, Noah and Alva J; three sisters, Grace Hyde, Lottie Howard and Joanne Etue.
