Virginia Ruth Alton Cooper, born July 11, 1925, loving mother and grandmother, went to be with her Heavenly Father on October 7, 2010. She was a strong believer in Christ and in spite of illness and many setbacks in her life, did not fail to pass along the greatest gift of all, her faith, to her family. Virginia was also a kind and gentle soul who left us a lasting legacy of love. She had a friendly and outgoing personality with a sharp wit that will be remembered by all her friends and family.

Virginia was born in Detroit, MI to Victoria and James Alton, and graduated from Monroe High School on June 8, 1944. She was married on February 7, 1948, to Sidney D. Cooper of Ida, MI. She is survived by her four devoted sons, Donald, James (Kimberly), Kenneth (Susan), and Robert, as well as by eight fantastic grandchildren: Joshua, Bethany, Sarah, Joseph, Jennifer, David, Robert, and Sydney.

Visitation will be held on Tuesday, October 12, from 2-4 PM, and 6-8 PM, followed by a family and friends memorial service from 8-9 PM, at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, MI. The body will lie in state on Wednesday, October 13, from 10-11 AM, at St, Joseph Catholic Church in Ida, followed by a Mass of Resurrection celebrated by Fr. Robert Bauer, of St. Patrick's Church, Carlton. Virginia will be buried next to her late husband, Sidney, at Roselawn Cemetery, LaSalle, MI. A luncheon will follow at the Lynn C. Weeman American Legion Post 514, Ida, from 2-4 PM.
