Helen Margaret Swehla, 101 yrs, of Deerfield, formerly of Summerfield Twp, died Monday, July 14th. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Friday, from 2-9 PM, with a Scripture Service at 7 PM. She will lie in state at St. Alphonsus Catholic Church, Deerfield, Saturday from 10 AM until the Mass of Resurrection at 11 AM. Fr. Jack Lounghran will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg.

Mrs. Swehla was born January 29, 1908, in Toledo, the daughter of John and Stella (Keivens) Zimmerman. She married Benjamin J. Swehla, October 2, 1937, in St. Joseph's Parsonage, Ida. He died July 23, 1978. Helen was a member of St. Alphonsus Church, a former member of St. Joseph Church, Ida, and it's Christian Mothers. She was also a member of the Farm Bureau. In her youth, Helen cleaned various local homes, and worked in the Ida Cannery.

Survivors include: a son, James (Betty) Swehla, of Los Banos, CA; two daughters, Marian (William) Howard, and Kathleen (Jimmy) Barta, both of Deerfield; ten grandchildren, thirteen great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband; a daughter, Margie McMahon; two brothers, George and Stanley Zimmerman; and two sisters, Rosella Zimmerman and Ruth Schlump.

Memorial contributions for Mrs. Swehla, may be made to the St. Alphonsus SALT Center.
