Joanne Helen Songalewski, 72 yrs, of Monroe died Friday morning, May 9th  while under the care of Heartland Hospice. A Memorial Service will be held Tuesday, May 12, 2009, at 2:00 PM, at the American Legion Post 514, Ida. Her grandson, Jason Berry will officiate.

 

Born in Lynn, MA, on May 20, 1936, she was the daughter of the late George and Mary Margaret (Beaupre) Clancy. She married Walter Werner, May 19, 1956. She then married Theodore J. Songalewski, May 19, 1995, in Plymouth, MI. He died April 22, 2001. Mrs. Songalewski was a Michigan resident for 49 years. She was a member of the American Legion Auxilliary Post 514 for 37 years where she held the offices of President, Vice President, Chaplin, Secretary, and Treasurer. She was also a member of the 40 & 8, where she held the office of La Chapeau and various other offices for 21 years. She was the owner of Joanne's Ceramics and was recently the office manager at the American Legion Post 514. She enjoyed crafts, reading, and family outings with her children.

 

Mrs. Songalewski is survived by her son Dwight Werner and his wife,Karen (Guy), of Monroe, her two daughters, Joanne (Werner) Ackerman, of Monroe, and Karen (Werner) MacDonald and her husband David, of White Lake, MI. She is also survived by six grandchildren, Joshua and Amy (Hullibarger), of Temperance, Jodi (Werner) and Jason Berry, of Monroe, Crysta (Ackerman) and Adam Seneski, of Dearborn, Robert and Colleen (Tam) Ackerman, of Kalamazoo, and Adam and Sara MacDonald, of White Lake, MI. She was preceded in death by her husband, her brother William Clancy, and her two sisters, Marjorie Gagner and Marilyn Gentleman.
