Joanne D. Smith, 72 yrs, of Temperance, died Saturday, March 21st at Hospice of Northwest Ohio. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Monday from 4-9 PM, and Tuesday, from 12-9 PM. She will lie in state Wednesday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM, at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Ida. Rev. Michael Dennis and Rev. Keith Smith will co-officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle.

Joanne was born November 1, 1936, in Toledo, to Charles and Doris (Shenk) Henry. A 1954 Ida High School graduate, she married Herbert "Herb" Smith June 9, 1956, in Morocco United Brethren Church. She was employed as a bookkeeper for the Erie Alfalfa Mill in the 1950's. Active in the Morocco United Brethren Church, she was church Treasurer for 40 yrs, church pianist for many years, and served for twenty years as Secretary for the Women's Missionary

Fellowship. Joanne did all kinds of volunteer work for the county. She traveled to all fifty states and fifteen foreign countries including China and Australia. She served as Ambassador for American Soy Bean Association for five years, and was past Grand Marshall of the Ida Christmas Light Parade. She loved baking, cooking, and gardening. She was devoted to her family, and her grandchildren found her home their favorite place to be.

Survivors include: her husband, Herb; three daughters, Debbie (Dennis) Longstreet, of Temperance, Vicki (Don) Harris, of LaSalle, Bev (Neil) Roebuck, of Ida; a brother, Charles "Johnny" (Faye) Henry, of Ida; eight grandchildren, Brandon, Brent, Brice, Garth, Garret, Grant, Kyle, and Kaylee; and a great-grandson, Gunner. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers, David and Dale Henry.
