Robert Harold (Doc) Riter, 82 years of Dundee, passed quickly from this world Friday morning September 11, 2009. He had suffered a minor heart attack earlier in the week and then a major attack from which he did not recover. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home Monday from 12 until 8 P.M. He will lie in state in St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida, Tuesday from 10 A.M. until the Mass of the Resurrection at 11:00 A.M. Fr. Michael Woroniewicz will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ida.

 

Bob was born in La Salle Township October 8,1926 to Nicholas (aka Joseph Slupecki) and Mamie (Gotha) Riter. A 1943 Ida High School Graduate, he served in the U.S. Naval Air Force in Florida from 1943-1947. He married Marilyn Marie Haman on June 19,1948, at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Ida. He received an Associate of Science Degree from Monroe County Community College in 1972. Bob went back to college and earned a Bachelor Degree in Business Administration from Eastern Michigan University in 1975. He was an accountant for Girkins Electric Company, Toledo, for 42 years retiring in 1991.

 

Bob enjoyed bowling, golf, dancing, and genealogy. He belonged to St. Irene's Catholic Church in Dundee, the American Legion Post 514, Ida, Polka Boosters of Warren, MI, TAPS and IMA, of Toledo. He was also a member of the Monroe Golf League, the Dundee Senior Golf League, and the Senior Citizens of Dundee. He volunteered for the Jamie Farr LPGA Tournament as a walking scorer for 25 years. He and Marilyn belonged to many square and round dancing clubs and most recently enjoyed polka dancing.

 

He is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Marilyn; a son Michael (Patti), of Ida; two daughters, Patricia(Frank) Jackson of Saline, Mary (Ken) Vergowven of Maybee; grandchildren, Heather Studebaker, Ryan Riter, Aaron(Heidi) Riter, Courtney (Brandon) Bowman, Paula Vergowven, Duston Riter, Jeffrey Vergowven, Jeremy (Tracy) Stoltz, Jami Stoltz, 14 great-grandchildren, and a sister, Marjorie Steele, of Sterling Heights. He was preceded in death by an infant son Robert Paul, and his parents.
