Donald Herman Nickel, Sr, 79 yrs, of Farwell, formerly of Temperance, died Saturday, November 28th,  at his residence. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home,  Monday from 7-9 PM, and Tuesday from 12-9 PM, with a Rosary Service at 5 PM. Donald will lie in state Wednesday, from 11 AM until the Funeral Mass of Resurrection at 12 PM, at St. Joseph Church, Ida. Fr. Robert Bauer will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Cemetery, Ida. Military Graveside Services will be under the auspices of Lynn C. Weeman, American Legion 514.

Born September 20, 1930, in Detroit, Donald was the son of Elmer and Margaret (Schroeder) Nickel. He married Irene Golembieski November 25, 1950. She died February 15, 1988. He then married Violet Strack September 11, 1988. A veteran, having served with the U.S. Coast Guard from 1949 to 1952, Donald worked for Helcim for over 21 years, retiring in 1991. He was a life member of the Lynn C. Weeman American Legion Post 514, and the Temperance Post for the 40 & 8.

Surviving are: his wife Violet; sons, Donald (Faye), of Roscommon, Peter, of Evart, MI, Edward, of Grayling, MI; step sons, Cristy Beamer, of Toledo, Norman (Norma) Beamer, of Monroe, Irving (Misty) Strack, of Newport; daughters, Nancy (Tony) Guisbert, of Evart, MI, Donna (Sr. Esther) of Denver, CO, Margaret (Tom) Boyd, of GA, Hazel (Tony) Olkowski, of Michigan Center; step daughters, Nadine Raymer, of Luna Pier, Valarie Benoit, of Toledo; a sister, Marion (Ray) Boyd, of FL; eleven grandchildren, four step grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and four step great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Irene; parents, and a brother Robert.
