Dorothy Christine Matthias, 81 yrs, of Deerfield, died Saturday evening, January 3rd while under the care of Hospice of Lenawee. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Tuesday from 2-9 PM. She will lie in state at the Deerfield United Methodist Church Wednesday from 12 Noon until services at 1 PM. Pastor Michael Clemmer will officiate. Burial will be in the Deerfield Cemetery.

Born August 24, 1927, in Detroit, Dorothy was the daughter of Albert and Shirley (Waltz) Thomas. A graduate of North West High School in Detroit, she received her Bachelor of Science Degree from Sienna Heights University in Adrian. She married Richard William Matthias, November 1, 1947, in Detroit. A homemaker, Dorothy was employed by Stauffer Walker Chemical Co, of Detroit, for 27 years, retiring in 1992. She was a member of the Deerfield United Methodist Church and loved gardening, travel, casinos, bowling, knitting , and being with her family.

Survivors include: her husband, Richard; four sons, Donald (Wanda), of Columbiaville, MI, James (Diane), of Cement City, MI, Bob (Michele), of Brooklyn, MI, Mark, of Deerfield, MI, five daughters, Laura (Rusty) Rapai, of Carleton, Susan (Mike) Burguard, of Honor, MI, Judy (Marty) Fowler, of Deerfield, MI, Sandy (Joe) Drake, and Donna Matthias, both of Tucson, AZ; a brother, Donald Thomas, of Detroit, MI, a sister, Nancy Davis, of Dearborn Hts, MI; seventeen grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son Kenneth, a daughter Caro, a brother Steve Thomas, and three sisters, Sophia Mund, Mary Grantham, and Evelyn Simpson.

The family suggests Memorial Contributions be made to the Deerfield United Methodist Church.
