Helen Elaine Gerweck, 89 yrs, of Monroe, formerly of Ida, died Thursday, December 24th, at The Lutheran Home of Monroe. Friends may call at Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, Monday from 2 PM until Memorial Services at 3 PM. Pastor Ted Kerr will officiate.

Born June 9, 1920, in Ida, she was the daughter of Wallace and Ida (Cooper) Scheid. A 1937 Ida High School Graduate, she received her BS Degree in Nursing from University of Michigan in 1941. She married Lee A. Gerweck February 14, 1942, in Ida. He died May 21, 1998. Elaine was a former Head Nurse for the U of M Outpatient Dept. She was a member of Prince of Peace Lutheran Church, and a former member of the Ida United Methodist Church, where she was past president of the ladies Association, Director of the Youth Choir for 20 yrs, a member of the Administrative Board, and Adult Choir, and served as Nurse for the District Church Camp for several years. Elaine was also active in the Cub Scouts and Campfire Girls, and was a volunteer at the Ida Child's Center.

Survivors include: two sons, John (Sanjarie) Gerweck, of Ida, Gerry (Neita) Gerweck, of Brooklyn, MI; a daughter, Nancy (Jerry) Schleicher, of Ann Arbor; grandchildren, Heather, Deanna, Teague, Dan, Jennifer, Jevon, Joel, and Stephanie; and nine great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, a grandson, and a sister, June Eastman.
