Jan Donald Gere, 71 yrs, of Ida, died Wednesday, June 10th  at Fountain View of Monroe, while under the care of Compassionate Care Hospice of Canton, MI. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Friday from 2-9 PM. Services will be at the funeral home Saturday at 11 AM. Fr. Michael Woroniewicz, Administrator of St. Joseph Church, Ida, will officiate. Cremation will follow.

Born April 18, 1938, in Monroe, Jan was the son of William C. and Dorothy (Oberski) Gere. He served with the U.S. Army, Co D, 317th Engr Bn, from July 1956 to July 1959. Jan married Rose Mobley May 21, 1960 in Ida. He worked for 38 years as a welder for various iron works companies. He was a member of Local 55, Iron Workers, Toledo, and Local 25, of Detroit. Jan loved to hunt and fish.

Surviving are: his wife, Rose, of Ida; his mother, Dorothy, of Ida; two sons, Keith (Jackie), of Ida, Mark (Tina), of Monroe; three daughters, Angela (Earl) Manwaring, of Ida, Andrea Gere, of Monroe, Amy Gere, of Toledo; a brother, Charles "Bill" (Darla), of Ida; a sister, Terry Benore, of Monroe; eleven grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by his father.
