Barbara Jean Duffey, age 67, of Ida, Michigan, passed away at her home on Thursday, October 8, 2009, after a lengthy illness.

She was born December 1, 1941, in Rome, New York, to Joseph and Alice Zaino. The family moved to Toledo, Ohio, where Barbara attended Toledo Whitney High School. It was there that she would meet her husband of 48 years, Michael Duffey, while he attended nearby Toledo Macomber.

Barbara was first and foremost a devoted wife and mother of two sons, Michael Jr, and Christopher. But she was also an accomplished registered nurse, having served as a Coronary Care nurse for some fifteen years at Flower Hospital (Sylvania, OH) and later as the City of Toledo Health Department Nursing Supervisor for several years. She retired from her favorite position, that of school nurse, from Toledo Public Schools in 2006.

A lifelong student, Barbara enjoyed maintaining her educational certifications. She graduated cum laude from University of Michigan with a BS in nursing. Her Roman Catholic faith was very important to her and she delighted in learning and practicing it.

Barbara Duffey was, quite simply, a wife and mother without peer. She was universally recognized as being a loyal friend; kind and selfless to all whom she encountered. She often manifested her love by knitting wonderful quilts for her loved ones.

Barbara is survived by her loving husband, Michael Duffey, whom she married in 1961, and her two sons, Michael Jr, and Christopher, her two beloved granddaughters, Karenna and Kelsey, brothers Joseph and Larry Zaino, and sister, Beverly Philo.

Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Sunday, from 1-9 PM, with the Holy Rosary being recited at 2 PM. A Funeral Mass will be said in the funeral home Monday at 11 AM. Fr. Hector Bolduc, of St. Michaels Church in Green Bay, WI, will officiate. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Park, LaSalle, MI.

Per Barbara's wish the family would greatly appreciate that, in lieu of flowers, Masses would be said for the repose of Barbara's soul. Mass cards and contact information will be clearly marked at the funeral home.
