Janice Ellen Burguard, 67 years old, of Petersburg, died Tuesday night, January 19, 2009, in St. Vincent's Hospital, Toledo, OH. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home Thursday from 2-8 PM. She will lie in state at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Petersburg, Friday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM. Pastor Mark Flory will officiate. Burial will be in Pleasant View Cemetery, Petersburg.

Born September 24, 1941, in Easton, PA, Janice was the daughter of E. Ellen (Payne) Finney. In 1952 the family moved to Petersburg, MI. Janice graduated from Summerfield High School in 1959, attended college in Elkhart, IN, earning a degree as a Medical Secretary. She married John Gaertner and had two children. After working in a variety of positions in the medical field, she became an integral part of the NSF International family, working for 37 years and retiring in January, 2007. Married to Leroy Burguard September 17, 1977, in St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Janice continued to serve both the Lord in companionship with the church council, as secretary, and the board as financial secretary, the Ladies Guild and LWML. Janice especially enjoyed delivering the children's message during the church service.

Janice was a nature lover with an adventurous spirit, participating in a variety of sports, including kickboxing, fishing, and big game hunting. She also enjoyed traveling extensively throughout the United States , Canada, and abroad.

Surviving are her husband, Leroy; daughter, Jean (Gordon) Dowen, of Salem, IN; son, Jeff (Jennifer)Gaertner, of Grosse Ile, MI; two sisters, Sharon (John/Jerry) Lane, of Englewood, FL, and Claudia Koitch, of Ypsilanti; and four grandchildren, Jacob, Benjamin, Zoe, and Faith. She was preceded in death by her mother, Ellen; a sister, Colleen Hoevemyer; a brother, Terry Finney; a nephew, Monty Lane; and a niece, Julie (Lane) Kenyon.

Memorial contributions for Janice can be made in God's Glory, to St. Peter's Lutheran Church Fellowship Hall, or to a charity of your choice.
