E. Ellen (Payne) Finney, 90 yrs, of Petersburg, died Tuesday night at Grand Court, Adrian, Michigan. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Thursday from 6-9 PM. She will lie in state at Petersburg United Methodist Church Friday from 10 AM until services at 11 AM. Rev. Douglas Olsen, pastor of Dundee United Methodist Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Deerfield Cemetery.

 

Born November 3, 1917, in Summerfield Township, she was the daughter of Edward and Margaret (Robison) Payne. She married in April of 1937 and was blessed with five children. She moved to Easton, PA, in 1940 as a US Army Ordinance wife. She returned to Petersburg in 1952 where she became a member of Petersburg United Methodist Church. A Licensed Practical Nurse, Ellen retired from Ypsilanti State Hospital in 1979 after 17 years of service. She enjoyed reading, gardening, making crafts, music, and loved her grandchildren.

 

Surviving are three daughters: Sharon (John/Jerry) Lane, of Englewood, FL, Janice (Leroy) Burguard, of Petersburg, Claudia Koitch, of Ypsilanti; a sister, Alice Sauter, of Adrian; six grandchildren and fifteen great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Colleen Hoevemeyer, a son Terry Finney, and two grandchildren, Monty Lane and Julie Lane Kenyon.

 

Memorial contributions for Ellen may be made in God's glory to Petersburg United Methodist Church, or to the Donor's Choice.
