E. Lane Devine, 86 yrs, of Petersburg, died at her residence Tuesday morning, Sept 23. Friends may call at the Capaul Funeral Home, Ida, Wednesday from 6-9 PM, and Thursday from 2-9 PM. Services will be at the funeral home Friday at 11 AM. Pastor Brenda Wilkison, of the First Presbyterian Church, Erie, will officiate. Burial will be in St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Erie.
Mrs. Devine was born May 5, 1922 in Wayne, MI, to Theron and Celia (Heldt) Palmiter. She served with the US Navy from 1945 to 1946. She married James Devine May 12, 1951, in the London Methodist Church, Milan. She was employed by Mercy Memorial Hospital as a secretary from 1972 until she retired in 1984. She was also an Ida School bus driver for nine years and had worked at the Willow Run Bomber Plant. E. Lane was a member of the First Presbyterian
Church in Erie, where she was Choir Director, taught Sunday School and Vacation Bible School, and was the First Woman Elder of the Church. Mrs. Devine was also a member of the Lullaby Extension, Monroe County Chorus, and the River Raisin Sweet Adelines.
Survivors include: her husband, James; a son Hugh, of Erie; three daughters, Jeannie (Jim) Metz, of Monroe, Holly (Jim) Potter, of Ottawa Lake, Amy (John) Kreger, of Deerfield; two brothers, Calvin (Lucille) Palmiter and Adelore (Wilma) Palmiter, both of Monroe; two sisters, Iona Lynch, of Dundee and Sherry (Frank) Korican, of Lewiston, MI; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a sister, Celestine Hammond and a brother, Larry Palmiter.
